Favourite (Non Obvious) City Game

So whats yours?

Obvious ones aside, Cup run in 85, Bayern, Inter, Millenium, 9-2

I'll start with Huddersfield away League One season,

We filled the away end, real summer carnival atmosphere.

We went one down really early and it remained this way until about 20 minutes to go. Holt got us level, and muscled his way in to set Stephen Elliot up, who got a very similar 3rd goal.

Couple of videos (not mine) from the day

Still gives me goose pimples!

Mine probably falls somewhere near the "obvious" category, but my favourite game is the 2-0 home win against Man United at Carrow Road in the 2004/05 campaign. Two top drawer city goals (Ashton & McKenzie),amazing atmosphere, gave gave us all the (misguided) belief that we could stay up, Huckerby on top form, amazing atmosphere at the ground and Man Utd's star studded team looking completely useless all game. I actually remember McKenzie better for his goal in that game than I do for his scum goals.

Remember our trip to the Galpharm well, they were on an unbeaten run if I remember correctly and it was a brilliant away day!

My favourite has to be Man U home in November 2012. It was my son, Jacob's18th birthday and the club made a bit of a fuss of him. He got a tour of the ground including a visit to both changing rooms & a signed football presented by Hucks. To top the day off we won, making the day even more special.

1977 v Man utd. Probably remembered for good and bad reasons. We beat them 2-1 and it was the first game they had lost for ages. The only trouble was the rioting afterwards. I was 11 and with my dad. Scary stuff at that age and can vividly remember the fires outside the ground.

I know you said not obvious but my first Norwich v Ipswich game in 1977 1-0 win for us. Vividly remember Justin Fashanu scoring.

Norwich beating Walsall 4-1 away from home, the last game I attended with my late father. funny ground, like something my lad would build out of Lego. We went 1 down but that just pissed us off, and I miss that attitude.

"That" night at Portsmouth will live long in the memory as will beating the scum 2-0 at Portaloo to go top of the league on my birthday. Beating Leeds 4-2 when Sutton scored a hat-trick was a cracker, Rod Wallace caused us all sorts of problems and I'm sure they went 2-0 up but the original "Super Chris" had other ideas...

There are many, but now being an exile from the Fine City, the 2-0 win over ManUtd stands out. I watched it in my local which was filled with ManUtd plastics who were looking on with stunned disbelief as the second goal went in. To add to the drama, a shop across from the pub caught fire and the pub had to be evacuated. Leave, i said, but we're beating ManUtd 2-0! After much pressure I was forced out and had to run uphill to get home and find out how it had finished. My poor wife retreated in horror as I rushed in demanding the remote control to see Final Score. 2-0 it stayed - great result!

I very much enjoyed the 3-0 away win at Peterborough in the FA Cup a couple of seasons ago.

Got a couple.

Probably in the obvious category but that 3-2 vs Derby was incredible. Great atmosphere.

Birmingham at home in the Prem in 2005 is up there. Last home game of season, needed to win and results to go our way for us to go into final game (the infamous Craven Cottage trip) outside the bottom 3. We won 1-0, Helveg dived to get a Brum player sent off, Huckerby wins a penalty shortly after and Ashton converts. Scrappy 1-0 win. Result read out as final score was 2-1 in the Palace vs So'ton game (we needed a draw). Waiting for the players to do a lap of honour and random sections of the ground started erupting as news filtered through that the result had incorrectly been read out as a final score when it was still in injury time and there'd been a 93rd minute equaliser!

Brighton away in 2004 promotion season was my first away day without my Dad. Went down with a mate on the train. Left the house at 7:15am. Got home at 11:45pm. 3-1 win and a cracking day out. Brighton fans were a good bunch.

Birmingham away in 1996, as I was mascot (back in the days when there was only one mascot per game) and Neil Adams smashed a penalty into the roof of the net to give us a 3-2 win.

Sutton match when we won something crazy like 8-0, loved that game and it's so clear in my head i can see Flecky walking over to us now laughing.  He was loving it, even their keeper shook his hand at one point in respect! :)

Also recently for me, 2009 (I think?) when Gunn was in charge vs Cardiff at home, they were flying high and Cody McDonald rounds the keeper at the end i was in raptures... Really felt confident we had turned a corner after that match, Cody was the answer and maybe things were back on track.  Sadly not to be, but it was a great feeling of optimism all the same and i will forever remember that lad falling to his knees after scoring.

Norwich 4 - 4 Middlesborough

I've never witnessed such a great comeback and the celebrations at the end of the game were like we'd won.

That was an immense come back, that last 10 minutes was insane and sparked the great 'Should you leave early' debate! :)

Wasn't it followed shortly by the Newcastle match when kluivert (sp?) equalised in the 90th minute and our hearts sank and then that absolute beauty of man Dean Ashton popped up seconds afterwards at the other end to seal it for us?

Edit: No, newcastle match was months apart. lol

Just had a cheeky watch of that goal, what a player Ashton was!

Boxing day 82 match at portman road,   late screamer from O'Neil wins the game against the Binmen in their absolute TWTD glory days pomp.     Sat in their directors box going absolutely nutts in celebration much to the ire of the home fans nearby.

I was at that game,I was only 16 at the time.I remember getting there about 2.30 and the away end was packed but we still managed to get in(no all ticket games back then).

There was this one scummer near the fence and we were giving each other *bleep* all through the match. When that MOniel goal went in I went crazy and his sick face was a picture.Im getting goosepimples just writing about it.

To top it off we got 1p5wich in the 3rd of the Cup the following January and the same fella was there in the away end near the fence and we spotted each other. We gave each other a respectful smile and then the abuse carried on from that great Boxing Day game.

Happy days.

That was a pretty special game, the run we were on after beating Man Utd, I think we won 4 home games in a row.

I always remember that goal by Safri to open the scoring as well.

Was that the same game? Wow! Say what you like about Worthy but we did have some amazing moments that season.  Safri's goal feels relatively recent yet Ashton's so far away in my memory.  That's nuts, but i suppose Safri's was something else so stays in your mind so vivid.

Its probably a bit too obvious, but for me it was the Pompey game when we were last in the Champ and we did the old pitch invasion. Only time I've ever stepped foot on a footy pitch and it was mainly to run around like a headless chicken. But yeah, I loved it :D
