Forums are, in all honesty, about a decade past their peak. That doesn't make this a bad place - just a general observation.

This sums it up perfectly for me really.

Personally, I go through phases where i get completely bored with messages boards, although, if there's any decent debate to be had, this is the first place I come back to.

As someone who's here but often just lurks, I can offer one explanation - Facebook and Twitter.  I spend far more of my NCFC social time on each of those than I do here. Getting on forums and engaging in a deep discussion generally requires you to get on a computer.  Yeah, a tablet or a phone gets used from time to time, but if I'm going to bang out more than a few characters (and I'm at home or work), then I'm grabbing a real keyboard.

I think all forms of social media have their place, but there's also been some evolution.  I've been online 25 years and seen specific topic social media go from Usenet news groups to email lists to forums to broader platforms like FB/Twitter/Instagram (no, I never did IRC)... Forums are, in all honesty, about a decade past their peak.  That doesn't make this a bad place - just a general observation.

I agree completely and made this point on the pinkun when this place was blamed for the pink'un having a quiet week (this place was very quiet at the time too!). 

In addition to this, the massive move away from desktop/laptop to mobile/tablet browsing is another factor, much easier to use twitter and facebook on mobile devices than to write a couple of hundred words on a forum. I'm still a desktop user with a full size touch typing keyboard due to my business being online (a dual monitor user in fact!) which is why my posts probably seem so long to many. 

Am I the only person who thinks that all the Norwich facebook groups are over run by idiots and trolls too though? Difficult to have a conversation on there. 

One thing which may help this place a little is the update in software which will render the mobile app redundant and make it much easier to use this place on a tablet or mobile, I was hoping to get this done by now but as splutcho mentioned above I've had a health issue which has delayed this (don't worry I'm not dying, I'm only 30!), Splutcho will also be taking over the twitter account soon (I'll get that sorted asap), this place was more active when the twitter account was engaging.

Plus a thread started this pre-season did break the record for the number of replies on NorwichTalk, 376 and counting, and there have been quieter periods! 

Ultimately this place will continue to exist for as long as there are people who want to use it, even if its only a couple of dozen, think we can still breathe some life into the place though, I'm going to be improving it soon.

A surprise high profile signing would do the trick too, our lack of activity in the transfer market is notable!

Ah no prob mate, am in Nigeria at work, but they have upgraded the wifi on the ship, so its not too much of a problem.

Yeah, deleted maybe 15 threads out of there today, thankfully it seems contained to just that one forum.

Trouble is that you don't want too many migrating from the Pink Un as you'll inevitably get a nice selection of trolls etc, but with good moderation even that's not an issue.

Quality not quantity springs to mind, and I'd rather read 1-2 genuinely interesting and reasonable threads a day, than dozens of them filled with the inane, gibberish rambling that's so prevalent on the Pink Un....

I migrated from the Pink Un as did many others and was 606 before.

To be honest, my love affair with football is diminishing although NCFC still dominates my life in a sporting and spiritual sense. And too many times, by the time I have read a topic or post on here, somebody has adequately said what I would have and I don't feel the need to repeat what someone else has said just to make a point. And I do feel many posters debate a subject to death and it ends up like the Monty Python argument sketch.

And last season, with us not being on the internet too many times, I couldn't really justify commenting on our performances without viewing it live. And as I cater for a local rugby team every other Saturday during the season, I won't be able to see all next season's games.

So as long as nobody takes offence or accuses me of being a plastic, I will continue to be more of a voyeur than a contributor, but would like occasionally throw my hat into the ring

In my experience across many forms of communication across many sports in many countries, the signal-to-noise ratio is about the same.  I can tell you that Canary Call sounds just like the post-game call in show of any college or pro team in any sport over here in the states.

God I hope I'm not included in that... I've got a small FB group for our supporter group...

But though I am probably on just about every generic NCFC FB group, I don't read but maybe 10% of the content.  Mostly it's because after that level of volume there's little additional original content - just repeats and me toos.

Hmm. Have to be honest, there's some good posters on this forum but not enough content. Not enough content means I only really bother checking once a week or so. 

For all the criticisms of the PinkUn it's less boring than here at the moment. Hopefully it'll pick up here closer to the season starting.
