Should we keep Hooper?

I wouldn't be sad to see him go if we got a big offer. I would rather keep RvW though if I had the choice between the two.
Oddly, I feel the same, and its an odd one to square away in your head.

I mean, taking it logically, Hooper vastly outperformed Ricky last season.

Is it maybe because Ricky appears to care more, that Hooper has a touch of the mercenary about him, and you know he'll be off like a shot come the first decent offer?

Or that we feel sorry for Ricky, who probably has no real saleable value lol?

I think its more the latter. I just think he's a likeable character with a good attitude  that makes me desperate to see him succeed. I think his Tweets and work rate have had this effect on me! But I do get the feeling out of the two Hooper would be desperate to leave the club, while Ricky wants to stay and prove his worth. But I could be completely wrong here as obviously I don't know what is going on behind the scenes! haha
Well if you're wrong, we both are!

I agree with Adams that we'll need around 80 goals this season to go back up. Losing any of our top strikers would compromise that, IMO.

I don't really want to lose any strikers (bar Becchio) or otherwise we'll probably need another in.

I think someone will go. I should imagine that Lafferty and Grabban didn't come here to warm the bench, and I don't think either Hooper or Ricky will be happy doing that either. While obviously this will always be an issue, I think the fact we have bought two new strikers points to an exit, and I'm not even factoring Becchio in either.

Yeah maybe you're right. Seems like Loza will have some game time too actually, which I forgot to factor in. It concerns me a little actually. I'm all for playing the youth, but they have to be good enough, and I'm not 100% convinced that Jamar is yet.

Its difficult to gauge, he is obviously promising. By the time he came on, on Monday night, there had been that many changes that the team really lost their shape and attacking impetus. I would like to see him start a game, in a full strength side.

Yeah, I'd love him to shut me up, I just notice he struggled to make an impact in promotion chasing League 1 sides. Did well in League 2 mind.

I would like to see the likes of Gafaiti, Murphy x2, Loza, McFadden, Morris in maybe a league cup game but i dont see them ready for regular championship football.

I think Josh Murphy looks the closest, and I reckon you'll see him on the bench a lot this season.

Purely on suitability for the Championship, I'd love us to keep Hooper – if he ripped it up in a poor Scunthorpe side, imagine what he could do with the service from a quality midfield in an attack-minded team. I think Hoop would score more than RVW and adapt to the Championship much more quickly.

That said, there's obviously the attitude thing – if Hoop will knuckle down and commit to us at least until January, he'll actually do his career more good than if he was fighting for a place in a bottom-half Prem team.

I agree, as Josh is really a first team squad member already and he's come into the pre-season on fire. Loza, Jacob and Gafaiti will also get their chances as well, especially if injuries pile up.

"Hello Mr Hooper, [insert Premiership team name here] we understand you're earning 15k a week at Norwich (Figure completely made up) well we'd like to offer you 35k"

*Sound of car door slamming and it wheelspinning out the Norwich City carpark.

That's probably true Morty, but the PL club have to make a bid City are willing to accept. McNally isn't one to cave in to players' wishes.

Oh totally. After his fine performance in the Snodgrass deal, I have 100% confidence in him. But it also works another way, I think if Adams went to McNally and said "I 100% want to keep Hooper at all costs" then he could make that happen too, possibly by "sacrificing" another player.

Is there actually any hard-and-fast evidence that Hooper wants out? He hasn't handed in a transfer request, has he?

No, none whatsoever, pure speculation on my part, coupled with his name being linked to a few clubs.

Similarly I'm not saying I believe he wants to stay, but he must realise that the club holds all the aces at the moment, and his best course of action may be to knuckle down and bang in some goals to increase his value to a level that would persuade us to sell...

He scored 6 under Hughton which isn't bad at all. With better management and in the Championship he should score at least 20, unless Grabban and Lafferty do so well they keep him out.
