Funnily enough all the staff at work were given a £10 voucher at wetherspoons so I'm going to go in one for breakfast, probably the glasshouse I guess

Genuine question, but is 'the owner is a binner' a valid reason for boycotting a pub, unless they're also a bit a twat in other ways?

I personally have more respect for someone who supports Ipswich, which is always going to be because it's their local team or through parental influence, than someone who chooses Man Utd or Liverpool simply because they were the best team when they were growing up.

The only pub I 'boycott' because the owner is a total bellend is Wetherspoons, unless I'm part of a large group and I get considerably outvoted.
I also boycott Wetherspoons, not for Tim Martin’s politics, but because he turned our local pub into an eyesore.

I agree, and will always buy British, or shop locally where possible. Have you seen the price of milk from a milkman though?

However, let me give you an example.

Some years ago I needed a cable for something, an HDMI or something like that, so I walked up the City and went to Tandy, where I saw one for something like £7:50. I stood in the shop and looked it up on Amazon and I could get it poked through my letterbox, for 3 quid cheaper, the next day.

I like to think I played my part in them going out of business not long after.
Pint of milk delivered here is 66p. And in bottles. In the supermarkets it's 85 or 90p our way. Something that works well in this instance (the dairy is local too).

Tandy was a poor excuse for a shop and not surprised it went out of business. Amazon next day delivery (if you stump up for Prime) can't be beaten can it for both cost and convenience? We get to know the Evri and DPD people too because they can beat Royal Mail all ends up. No wonder businesses use them. But they don't have time for a cup of tea.or have a conversation for long.

When my son started his working life he did time (nice way of putting it!) at Argos. Pile it high, sell it cheap. It was terrible pay and conditions but he got valuable work experience for his next roles. These places exploit their staff because they can. Many businesses have gone abroad too for the cheap labour.

I don't know what the answer is. Cheap stuff, much of it from China, packaged in a massive supermarket warehouses by poorly paid staff and sent to your door....apart from just trying to stay local (e.g. using the local pubs and businesses).

I think the unfortunate fact is that many people do not have the money to pick and choose where they shop.

I actually don't know how much milk costs lol, but we used to get it delivered and I do know it cost more than Morrissons!

Call me Tam if you like (if you've ever watched the brilliant Still Game)...but I've been going to Aldi and Lidl well before it's became fashionable.
You're right about costs of course. The main point I was trying to make (maybe badly) is just that moment to think about any purchase before you do. I often start googling Amazon when I'm looking for stuff.....Mrs S always tells me to buy quality clothes wherever possible for instance and they last 10 times longer. It has taken me years (decades) to do it but she's right! Stuff like jumpers (say made in Donegal) last decades when another cheap jumper struggles to last a year! Anyway, I'm off my soap box now.

I did that for a while but injuries to both knees (ACL twice in left knee and detatched quad in right knee) mean that I should probably call time on my illustrious career. Do you play with Nev Townsend?

No, I'm going to guess that he plays at the FDC in bowthorpe ? I play at Brundall and absolutely love it, not just because of the fact I'm still kicking a ball but it's the banter as well and the friends I've made. A few players wives have met and they all say we're happier since we started playing football again :D

Yes he plays at the FDC! I loved it when I was doing it but even though it is only walking, I really can't risk another injury to my knees that are made of cream cheese. My last injury cost me a year off work, and quite a lot of money. Maybe when I retire (Hopefully in 3 years time) I'll re-visit it.

I'm not sure? It looks like everyone in the soca seniors just turns up, they split up into teams, and have a game? Theres certainly a lot of them!

Soca seniors have a number of teams, the best one is soca seniors blacks who play in tournaments all round the country and abroad. We played them and got battered 11-0 . I don't recognise Nev but will keep my eyes out for him as we play in two leagues at the FDC, over 50's one Sunday a month ( we're struggling) and the over 60's one wednesday a month which is more our level.
Whilst we play for the enjoyment once the first whistle goes I get into full competitive mode ! :p

When I played I was constantly battling against breaking into a trot!
