I thought the government had simply backed the new Manchester United stadium proposals, rather than providing funding or any other assistance?
Think they’ve said they back the regeneration proposals but not with funding for Man U/the sporting side. Will be interesting to see how that goes, the area needs it.

Agreed, and anyone who's ever done the Great Manchester Run can probably vouch for it. Old Trafford may be a wonderfully sited stadium, but whilst Salford Quays has seen a lot of money pumped into it and that's not too far away at all (use the National War Museum or the Lowry Centre as a starting point for that area) from Old Trafford, the initial area around it could use a good injection of investment.

Meanwhile, Bette Midler coming up with an absolute humdinger re. the state of reproductive rights in the USA... why not ban Viagra as well? After all, if "pregnancy" is "God's will" then what is "limp dick"?

Using “Gods Will” as an argument is a very slippery slope, as the only logical conclusion is to avoid any medic al treatment and simply hope for the best

I got into an argument with some God-bothering abortion nutter on this and he said a kid is God's gift.

He really didn't fucking like it when I asked him if a miscarriage or abortion was "return to sender".

Over the years, the Pink 'Un sadly turned into a communist platform; too many diehard lefties and ex-UEA students became members. Political correctness ruined discourse on any given subject, and notable members who made significant contributions got banned or left on their own accord.

The Pink 'Un is malfunctioning, and I've always had mixed feelings about its inevitable demise. I have great memories of the newspaper, and the site has had its golden era, of which I'm pleased to have been a huge part of...

It went woke, and now it's gone and broke.

So Labour has just cancelled local elections here in Norfolk. It seems you can't prorogue Parliament but you can take away the right to vote. How scared must Labour be?

Supposedly about boundary changes or something. Just delaying the inevitable.

Reform is saying the Conservatives colluded in this with Labour. How are they supposed to have done that?

Weren't the boundary changed proposed under the Tories?

No; the restructuring of local government is an initiative of the new government. Given the Labour government has such a huge majority, I'm at a loss as to what Reform mean by the suggestion of collusion and don't see any explanation from them.

I think t he plan is for a merged Norfolk and Suffolk unitary authority with powers removed from district councils.
Collusion is a bit of a stretch but Labour wants to create new larger local authorities with more devolved power while Tories know that elections now will see them wiped out by Reform. So shared interests of keeping Reform at bay is probably a better description than collusion

Collusion is more than a stretch; it's simply false. To collude with Labour they would have to be in a position where they have influence on the decision, which they don't.

It's a dishonest assertion from the Reform party.

So now, we have that great protector of human rights, Saudi Arabia, chairing a meeting of trump and putin, to decide what to do with Ucraina.
No Ucraina members will be allowed to be there.
Makes a lot of sense when you want to get rid of a country, split it up, to not have anyone there to argue their position.
Who next, Romania or Poland? putins lot gave us some drones last night on the border at Tulcea and Galati with Ucraina.
Good to see that NATO is not complaining, must not rock the boat.

A huge worry for Moldova and Romania I think Gerry. A step closer to a world war? Grim news all round.

It won’t be those two, but Moldova and Georgia will be very worried
