This is something that has come up a couple of times on the Pink Un in the past few days whilst discussing the futures of Marcondes and Gibbs.

We have loads of midfielders under contract for next season (McLean, Nuñez, Slimane, Schwartau, Gibbs, Forson, Forsyth) plus Marcondes and Wright who we have options to extend/buy. We'll surely bring in one or two new faces next season as well, so something has to give.

I think players like Gibbs, Forson and Forsyth may find it tough to find a place in next season's squad, Nuñez will likely be sold with one year left on his contract and who knows what other surprises may be in store.

Lots can, and will, change in six months, but, factoring in new additions, chances are we can only realistically fit four or five of these into the first team squad for next season.

I wouldn't bet against McLean going in the summer.

We now have decent cover all over the park.

I'd be surprised to see new signings in the summer for first team places. We have, as Morty shows above, competition all over the pitch and it's more likely that the signings will go into the development squad. GK could be an exception if Gunn goes, but I think they want players that they can develop to play the Norwich way rather than the finished product.

Given that Sainz and Nuñez will only have 12 months left on their contract, I think both of those will be sold. Hopefully we could get close to £20m for the pair, despite not being in a strong negotiating position due to their contract status.

I'd like to think that all of that money would be reinvested, so we'd make two biggish signings to directly replace them and use what's left over to fill any gaps. As you say, we may need a goalkeeper, and probably another attacker given that Dobbin is only on loan and Hernandez is out of contract.

But like you say, players to develop, and ultimately resell at a profit, would be the order of the day rather than peak-age players with little resale value. So basically more signings like Crnac, Jurasek, Forson, Cordoba and Schwartau.

It very much feels to me that we have a plan, it all feels very calculated and deliberate. Possibly the difference is that we have a little bit of money behind us now, but it does also feel like we are spending it well too. Cup half full here.

I think I have seen a article in which our Gk coach claims the Reyes is ready for first team action.

I'd take that with a pinch of salt. Probably just a confidence booster for the lad after being dropped by Cambridge.
