Fantastic news. Really promising guy who flashed his ability at Preston last year. Good to get him signed up long term.

Delighted with this - said last week that I considered Ryan Bennett and Declan Rudd to be the two most important contracts to sort, both done now.

Declan Rudd was superb in the Rotherham game, looked like he could genuinely supersede John Ruddy as our number 1 and I had Rotherham fans asking about him in the pub after the game, but I worry about him just sitting on our bench all year again like he did last season.

He's 24 now so is at that stage where he really needs to go out and just play games, like Ruddy did when at Motherwell in fact at a similar age? Had a great year at Preston the year before, but he isn't going to develop without playing regularly.

I was hoping we'd loan him to the Championship this season.

Some goalkeepers seem to spend their whole career as a number 2. This could happen to Declan if he's not careful. I think he's more likely to get first team football with a permanent move than by staying here

Yup. Decent 'keeper but you're not getting promoted out of the Champs with him in goal.

25 years old so he still has 10 years left minimum. If he does well at Charlton then if I was him I'd look for a perminant move and then try and make my way up from that level. His career is just going nowhere here. Shame as he is a local lad and for a little while a couple of seasons ago he did look promising, but with every passing year what potential he has is diminishing, and I'm afraid he just isn't good enough to be first choice goalkeeper here.

Good enough to be our 2nd choice keeper, but understandable if he isn't happy with that arrangement.

I actually think he's a very good keeper but lacked a bit of belief when he came into the side. Everybody was willing him to keep Ruddy out of the side but he didn't look like he believed enough in his own ability to do it, possibly inexperience and he's still young for a keeper at 25 so not too late for him to make it at a higher level than Charlton (possibly with us).

hope he does well,  would have thought he was champs level tbh,  but not to a competitor I guess.

So which old timer will be get in for third choice cover?
