I don't think he's had a great season but I would fear what the replacement might look like. Recruitment ain't been great.

He looks a touch small and lightweight to me, and my Cambridge supporting mate didn’t think he was anything special ( not terrible, but certainly didn’t stand out in regards to other recent keepers they’ve had) so I’d be concerned with him as our no.1.
He’s probably been picked because he’s better at playing out from the back or something stupid

My son said similar about his size, then saw him stood next to Cordoba, and they are a similar size. Just checked, 6 foot 4.

That does surprise me, I thought he was smaller than that.
He does still look like a stiff breeze would knock him over though. Maybe a few nights hard drinking with Duffy would bulk him up a bit

He'll have a job on his hands getting past George Long.

Even though nobody else does.
:D

To be fair to Long George, and I'm by no means a fan of his, I think apart from the horrendous parry to their forward which he attoned for with a great save, I think he did quite well yesterday. Certainly can't blame him for either of the goals (which is unusual for him).
Credit where/when it's due an all that.
Am I really alone in that thinking?

I still think he's shite tho TBF, certainly not a player to carry on with.

That's fair enough as an assessment I think.
In terms of George there's a saying along the lines of 'some people light up a room when they enter and some when they leave'. Will GL become No.1? You have to doubt it. And if someone else comes in for him to be their main keeper a lot of fans might be encouraged to dust off the taxi signs to volunteer to take him (to quote the old cliché).

I've no idea what will happen with the GK position next season.

My son was looking at stats, as we were discussing our current inability to keep a clean sheet, and trying to pin down, is it a leaky defence to blame, or has Gunn had a pretty poor season, and the stats bear out that Gunn is the issue.

This season our goalkeepers are -10.7 goals prevented and last season Gunn was +4.5. We're facing fewer shots and shots on target so is clearly something wrong with our keepers. This is based on XG which has its flaws but is a decent indicator of chance quality. We are limiting attackers to quite difficult shots and not many of them and they are going in at a high rate- though the Sheff Weds game we did defend very badly. Think the vast majority of games we are giving up less than 1 XG worth of chances so we are defending alright, combo of luck and poor keeping costing us.

As I have said with Gunn being a high earner I think he will go, and coupled with the above, I think he should. You can pick up a half decent Championship keeper for a lot less money than he is on. If we are doing it on the cheap, Reyes No1 and Long No2. I think I read somewhere though that they need 4 keepers for training purposes so if we ship Gunn out I expect us to buy someone, that said I don't know the situation with the youth.

With Long I feel people expect a little too much. We’re a mid table 2nd tier team, you’re not going to get too many top quality keepers who are happy to play second fiddle.
Long is certainly nothing spectacular, but he’s steady enough considering he’s supposed to be cheap only expected to play a couple of times a year

I don’t have an issue with Gunn to be honest, I think he’s the least of our worries at present.
Now if you can find a keeper of similar ability who is cheaper then by all means replace him, or if you feel one of the youngsters is ready to step up and give you a similar level then play them, but I’m worried that won’t yet be the case.
I think Gunn is steady enough, I can’t remember too many howlers during his time here and most games he’ll give you a solid 7/8 out of 10, and unless he’s on mental wages I’d be happy to see him between the sticks next season

I think he is on mental wages, and there was a rumour some time ago he's happy to go and be a 3rd choice keeper at a Prem club. Ticks the homegrown box too. On a similar note did you see John Ruddy picking up his cup winners medal at Wembley today?

I suppose we’ll see at the end of the season. I think the way the squad is going though we’ll be sorely lacking any experience if we lose Gunn, McClean or Duffy which concerns me.
I had no idea Ruddy was at Newcastle to be honest

Me neither, it was quite the surprise to see him on the balcony getting his medal.

Sounds like Sorenson, Gunn and Hernandez definitely leaving this summer.

Not really surprised with Onel or Sorenson, they’re both squad players these days so they are replaceable (even though I have a soft spot for Hernandez, being one of the few mavericks we have in the team that will actually try something different).
Gunn I think will be missed. I’d hope they have a replacement lined up because none of those currently in the building come close to him at the moment in my opinion
