I think we will put Saturday's performance behind us and I'm expecting a solid win with some goals in both halves. 3 or 4 to us and perhaps 1 against.

The last time I saw Preston at home was when Wes took that ludicrous penalty. And Chris Brown scored a decent goal for them - which he hardly ever did when with us. Long while ago (it was a five hour journey for a home match then).

Hopefully we can remain in the shoulder of the top 6 (just under the radar) and consolidate a space in March.

I don't mind Stacey. He has a catchy song although I can't remember it now I've written that.

I think this is very optimistic, Preston another big physical side and they don't concede many.

Only conceded 38 this season in 37 games.

We've conceded 50.

Think its one of those where we have to be really careful not to concede the first goal because they are adept at parking the bus. Might need to actually be quite conservative and cautious first half, maybe hope to grab one late in the half to go in in the lead so its Preston that have to open up in the second half and leave some gaps.

I don't have much faith in our ability to break down teams who sit deep and defend, but we're decent on the counter (with Sainz playing at least)

I'm quietly confident as long as we play to our best for the entire game.
With 5-17th separated by only 10 points after 30 games every game is going to be a battle. There's not alot to separate most teams so we need to be at our best and hope our bad luck with injuries is behind us.

I can see the point about caution and their meaner defence....but on our day we can beat any team (arguably struggling against the top 3). We've scored many goals and we often look so dangerous going forward. Agree the first goal is vital too.

I always maintain that Brown is the worst player I've seen play for us. Dreadful.

Fisher has been poor recently, Stacey is the better attacking option.

I think Stacey and Jurasek will make for a combo which Thorup likes, as Stacey is a flying wing back who likes going round the outside and Jurasek is a left-footer who cuts in, which is the opposite of the Fisher-Hernandez duo which we've seen recently.

A good shout that (in a fairly crowded field). I was disappointed with Peter Thorne and Mike Sheron. The latter we paid good money for (Man City?) and he scored two goals, went to Stoke and scored in every other game for them. Of course we did a player exchange and got Keith Scott in return. He didn't do much either but not nearly as bad as Sheron.
Brown's record is not quite as bad as Peter Thorne who played almost two seasons. Moved to Bradford where of course he became top scorer.

Neil Emblen is another. Signed after a good career with Wolves. Played a handful of games for us before moving on and then a good solid stint at Walsall.

That was a drop of two divisions to be fair, we were Championship and they were League Two, went and found his (then) level.

Both decent combinations. It would be good to have one on the bench to bring on against tiring teams.

An honourable mention has to go to Jason Jarrett. Plus the year we got relegated to the third tier we were that stuffed full of awful loan players I’ve forgotten half of them, although an incredibly fat John Hartson sticks in the memory

Easily the fattest man I have ever seen in a football kit.

He maybe could be the definition of a journeyman footballer. Yet he played a game or so less than "Le Juge" aka Julien Brellier. Hell, he was no midfield enforcer .

Roeder is forgiven in my eyes for getting in Wes but he brought in a load of stinkers. I guess that is where we were then in terms of our pulling power.

Just before we signed Wes I travelled late one night to see us at Blackpool. Hoolahan waa the stand out player (even though we won 3-1) and Roeder was able to pay the release clause a month or so later (memory says 250k but I may not be reliable here).
