Dear all fellow yellows, NOWFC: Norwich Over the Water Football Club
We all love NCFC, some of us remember a time before money made it impossible to compete, leaving clubs like the beloved NCFC, in a position that is limited.
They chose a good course of action in many ways, to develop an 'Academy', as part of a means to sustain and compete. However, it is increasingly clear that NCFC will be, more of a model of a kind of elite global Football Player Factory primarily, to develop players and move them on asap for profit. Then ( hopefully ) compete while they are with the club. Nothing inherently wrong in that and many clubs have to operate in a similar way, or not compete at all maybe.
So: leading into this question:
How many would like to see another option for competitive community led and city based FC ? Just wondering on thoughts out there, as it is murmured, so quite hypothetical, just curious on people's thoughts.
By that it means, in a world of make-believe lets say, a club that could potentially rise in the non-league levels, to a good standard, an option and complementary club for city supporters, when NCFC are on awaydays in Plymouth and Middlesbrough.
We all know the Norwich Over the Water area of the city, right? Maybe lived there, had businesses there, grew up there, visited shops, venues, pubs, (*or Looses ) appreciate the story of that part of the city.
The NOW area and North North in general maybe deserves and could have, a peoples / community club that really represents the area, the city - but is also a hub of community activities, interests, endeavours, that is not only a football club. Norwich Over the Water Football & Community Club?
Anyone who thinks this is something worth developing or instigating? Maybe can humbly suggest a thread chat, or a further network of some kind.
Starting a bottoom rung FC and even keeping it going, is not a 'walk in the park ( or Mousehold )' - but it is possible. Would anyone in these forums agree ?
Recent years have also seen a massive increase in interest in lower league football, estimated to have trebled in attendance on average across all leagues below National League level Offshoot or 'second' / 'third' clubs such as 'City of Liverpool FC' have sustained. Or of course FC United of Manchester. Not suggesting any comparison at all, as there are not grievances with NCFC for most, at least not the same type. That said, the model of the club has radically changed.
Maybe some of these clubs serve as the sign of things to come, the if you will, 'Canary in the coalmine' - as top level football changes, so then maybe down the leagues changes, as people show more and more interest in the origin of why FC's were formed in the first place. As social and community hubs.
Some non League fans might be familiar with Farnham Town FC, just an example of a club from struggling lower regional non league, to a change in approaches off the field, quadrupled attendances and rose through the leagues. Not to to take Dorking Wanderers as inspiration whatsoever but only as an example of a club that started from zilch not long ago.
OK: all that is only pipe dreaming but really just to illustrate what a local club with local identity can achieve.
Maybe a 'united' club that represents the North of the city and the core, the Over the Water area, there seems a possible niche there. Or not?
Last year, you may have see also that one of the oldest Norwich clubs, older than NCFC, Norwich CBS. folded last year after having issue to keep a suitable football ground for the Eastern Counties League. Of course that League is a feeder league to Isthmian League level. Each level demanding higher standard facilities of course.
Anyone connected to local Norwich, Norwich North or any Norfolk area football past or present, feel that forming a NOWFC is a possible plan, good idea?
To "kick it off" - just need a squad of top players, some staff, a constitution and a pitch to kick off the new season, with a new Norwich club ! We shall go forward !
