I'd like to say I'd like to see a reaction after Saturday but to be honest, it just feels like the season is fizzling out.

Sunderland will want these points more than we do.

After saying that Saturday was unacceptable there could be a surprise or two in the line up, players not being offered new contracts may not be involved anymore

Well, we got a performance tonight against a not too shabby team. Not enough clear openings and it didn't quite run for us. A couple of chances we should have converted. Some all round okay performances. Thought Cordoba had a good game as did Duffy. A clean sheet. Wright mostly had control of the midfield. Nice, neat, quick passes.

Fair play, an entertaining watch, but frustrating. I don't get how we can look like Brazil, but not turn that dominance into goals.

Wright caught the eye.

Funnily enough I wasn't that impressed with Cordoba, he sometimes attempts things he shouldn't and gives the ball away. Wright looked very good last night which means pink un posters who were saying we shouldn't waste money on him a fortnight ago are now desperate for us to sign him up as soon as possible :)
Overall it was a good performance, just couldn't get the goal we probably deserved

Yeah, Cordoba did a weird attempt at being Vincent Company with a 35 yarder, quite astonishing really and not seen that from him before (even shooting much). Duffy got his head on most things (as he does) and Cordoba looked more assured than I've seen him for a while (often worry he has a mistake in him).
I think Wright looks a proper midfielder. He always made himself available and he doesn't take long with his quick passes. Being only 19 too - but he looks up to the job. If he signs (which I expect) it will be a major boost for next season.
Sainz definitely off the boil and Sargent feeds off scraps. Slimane not the answer (though depends on the question!) in a higher role last night. Nunez was everywhere but often his end product was frustrating (like Marcondes). Still, there's been worse 0-0s. Sunderland looked well-drilled for a comparatively young team too. We ought to have been in the 4th or 5th places like them but for two or three results going the way they shouldn't have.

I think our biggest issue is that basically it is only Sargent and Sainz that are scoring goals, we need goals from everyone ideally. It feels a bit formulaic and predictable sometimes. In most seasons you will have other midfielders chipping in with 4 or 5 goals.

Agree. I was convinced that Dobbin was the fella to do it (son's friend, an Everton fan who goes even to some youth team matches told him he was a very good player who just needs a season playing regularly). He was showing a definite directness before his injury at Blackburn (and you could tell by his reaction he knew his season was over).

Such a shame this year with injuries. Think the unluckiest season I can recall with them.
Maybe Crnac can be a 1 in 3 scorer ahead? This first season might just be the intro needed and he can have a decent pre season no longer as the new bloke.

Trying to find positives as ever. Mahovo looked the part too before his injury. Even Jurasek seemed to have something about him (before injury!).

Sainz before his ban was unstoppable and the ban has been followed by him trying far too hard. Can he beat Piroe as league's top scorer? Something to at least look out for in our almost meaningless run in.

I wish mostly we will reduce this playing out from the back as much (and get or train a keeper to throw the ball out wide quickly like Schmeichel used to do). Even Sunderland were trying it and poorly. We've gifted far too many goals now in two seasons. Maybe more because Krul used to *uck up too. There must be other ways of keeping possession and yet being more aggressive. Teams rarely have the ability all round to get it right all the time and I reckon we do maybe 80% ...not good enough and we concede in the worst area of the pitch. Hell, even a long kick to a forward and have attacking mids winning the second ball must be better.
