After boos at full time the other day I feel that this could be a tense affair from the start. I think that we all get what Thorup is trying to do, and understand that progression may not be entirely linear, especially with injuries, but it very much feels like one step forward, then two sideways, then one back.

Wednesday are in similar form to us really, firmly in mid table, but maybe still with lingering ambitions for a sneaky play off spot. We know the script though, they know what to expect from us, so they will pack the defence and just soak up our, largely ineffective, pressure.

I think Reyes should keep his place, I want to see Duffy back with Cordoba at centre half, and I'd like to see Kenny and Marcondes back in. And overall something a bit more positive, the play offs haven't entirely gone just yet, all it would need is a bit of a consistent run, but therein lies the problem...

I think there's been too many last chance saloons in respect of our opportunities to make the play offs but this time, given other recent results only of the teams around us (very unpredictable too) this is our chance to close the gap to potentially a one game shot (3 points). I really hope we don't play Sorensen and Slimane as the midfield pairing and would like your proposed changes. In fact anyone to those two. Not a dig at them especially but it's not their forte (I mean looking actually forward to play a ball). We need quicker thinkers and Kenny and Emi are just that kind of midfielders. Sheff Wed are an interesting side and quite capable of matching us I think. I like Reyes starting too. Just never quite believed enough in Angus and so game time for Reyes now is a plus.
Who knows what's going to happen!

May as well just go with Reyes until end of season now, I think.

Looking forward to match, I don't think it will be too tense unless we go a goal down early. The boo's at the weekend seemed more through frustration than genuine anger, to me at least.

Having Kenny back from the start would be good.

JHT on Forson: “He is available but only if we really need him. It took maybe a week longer, but he will be ready if needed.”

Matej Jurasek remains unavailable for this game.

George Long is not available tomorrow evening. “There is a clear protocol we have to follow. He is in light training and will be ready for the game on Friday.” “It’s another good opportunity for Vicente (Reyes).”

Shane Duffy is back available after discipline last week. “If you ask 10 different managers, they would deal with it in 10 different ways. We have been clear from the start that if anything like that happens, then we have to see it as it is. The answer is easy to that.”

JHT on Kenny McLean: “Yes. He can (start games).”

JHT on rotating the squad: “I think we will freshen it up a little bit. It was good that Kenny came back on Friday, and rotation is needed because we play again on Friday.”

JHT on Jacob Wright: “I was really impressed with his performance against Hull. He was really poor in the first 15 minutes, but he grew into the game and learnt from his mistakes. This tells me he will be even better for us in the future.”

JHT on Jacob Wright: “I think we definitely try to (sign him permanently). The player also needs to be part of the contracts, when he evaluates the next step for his career. For us, he will be a very good fit. He is the type of player we are looking for.”

Decisions on out of contract players will happen in the next month… “You have to wait and find a day to do this. We focus on performances and preparation at the moment. I think the middle or end of March will be good for this.”

JHT on Sheffield Wednesday away game: “That game came on the back of a trip to Cardiff when we done so well for 85 minutes, but then lost. That was a tough time of the season and we had to get through it.”

JHT on Oxford game: “When I look at the stats from that game we should win it. We kept them under constant pressure second half. They had one counter attack in 45 minutes. I can’t explain why Borja (Sainz) doesn’t score at the end of the game.”

JHT: “I hope most of the fans can see where we are going. We didn’t win against Oxford or Blackburn, but there was lots of good things. They can also see where we aren’t good enough. That criticism should always be at me.”

Such is the way football is I think it's already starting to look questionable whether JHT will be given time to turn this around or indeed if he is even capable of doing so.

JHT was clearly bettered by Rohl's halftime changes and didn't respond until too late. It was there for all to see and questions will be asked. But I still hope he will be given time to get it right.

Kenny's interview was interesting, I do wonder if the players believe in the system at the moment

Okay, I have had time to process last night, I think.

I don't think I have ever seen such a contrast between two halves of a game, ever. First half we were 1970's Brasil, second half 1990's Rotherham. The first half was pure Hoffball, slick accurate passing, amazing movement, pressing they struggled to deal with, energy, fizz, and two brilliantly worked goals.

Then the second half. There is always a point when watching a game where you think "We're losing control of this, they are going to score soon" and it came pretty much straight away in the second half. Which can be fine, games ebb and flow, their manager will have roasted them at half time and they will have come out all guns blazing. But we never got hold of the game at all after that, we never recovered, and apart from scrambled half chances when we were panicking, and it was too late anyway, we barely laid a glove on them till the final whistle.

Obviously young players could be to blame, or senior players for not taking the lead, but the problem here is the rigidity of our system. When it works it is amazing, honestly that first half was an absolute delight to watch. But as soon as we come up against something different, in this case a few subs, we don't have the ability to adapt to it. Its almost like they are told the whole script, pre game. "Right lads, we're going to go out, score a few goals then just do this, this and this. Totally disregarding that the opposition might have something to say about that, and change what they are doing. Maybe we don't have the squad to make effective changes off the bench to counteract? I don't know.

I hope he is given more time, because I genuinely loved that first 45 minutes. But we really can't keep doing this.

The thing is though, that is what scouting is for. Someone should have watched them, and come up with a report on what they do when they are losing away from home, or come up against a team that likes to press. That should all be prepared. Hoff should have seen what they did, and already had something in mind to face up to it. I saw us losing control of the game at 50 minutes, I would assume he did too. Now he maybe had a plan, I'll play so in so for 60 minutes, then rest him and bring X player on, but when it is all falling apart you have to throw your plan in the bin.

We're good, but we're not good enough to just arrogantly think that we'll play our game and totally disregard the opposition.

This could be a bit of a thing - people like McLean and Duffy have much more experience at a higher level of football than JHT. They will know what's what.
