I was at the opening game of the season, away at Oxford, full of optimism for the new season, hopeful of a win to get us going (Do we EVER win on the opening day?) and the day got off to a terrible start as our new young star Rowe spat his dummy out and didn't fancy a game.

So I hope we absolutely muller these. Like 6 or 7 goals. Also I'm back in blighty now and looking forward to going, seeing us win handsomely then maybe head out in the fine City for a few celebratory libations.

No injury news yet but Chrisene will likley be a doubt, I think Doyle is available after suspension (Though I thought both CB's did very well for about 94 minutes last game) and seeing sniffs that Kenny could be felling better now.

My prediction 5 nil City. I may be back to edit this...

Dobbin and Chrisene out for the rest of the season, yay.

Dobbin doing his rehab here, so I do wonder if we are going to buy him? Wouldn't be against that, I think he has been decent.

Kenny back in training.

Mahovo back after the international break. So assume Doyle at LB tomorrow.

Rumours that Gunn is injured, Long has concussion which will mean Reyes between the sticks

Must admit, I'd quite like to see Reyes in goal as never been too sure on Gunny, and Long... well! :)

But if we lost to a mistake it'd be pretty hard on the guy as it would likely signal end of this season in regards to chasing Top Six.

That was pretty ho-hum. Kids can't do everything themselves. On the bright side Fisher gets better with every game

I like to say and think "There's something about JHT"

But I'm also now a bit like...is there?

Very pretty, but no end point. Strange selection, strange set up.A super start, that's it, can't even defend a long throw. Not the least bit impressed with Doyle and Sainz. Booing at the end,I wonder if the Hoff will be getting a vote of confidence, if this crap carries on

Wish I were, would be so nice to have a decent pint of English beer, and of course some British accents to listen to. Enjoy your beer Morty, perhaps a proxy pint for me, Wherry, Timothy Taylors Landlord, something like that. Bedtime here

Anyhoo, opinion.

I get how we are trying to play, I do get it, and I understand that players need to buy into the system, I get that. And I get that the plan is that we shall play such sexy football that the rest of the league will look on in awe, and just fall at our feet. And I get that if everyone is fit, and it all just ticks, then it is amazing, and we are literally unbeatable.

However...

We change the team at the last minute because Duffy is late, okay I get the point about team discipline, but I'm not totally okay with this, last minute reshuffles are not ideal, just fine the guy or chew him out, but don't fuck about with the team right before the game.

I get how we want to play, draw the opposition in, hit on the counter with slick passing etc etc, but what if the opposition decided they don't want to do that and defend in numbers and man mark all over the pitch? We are literally screwed, it feels like we are relying on teams showing up and being overawed by our passing brilliance. We really are just very predictable sometimes.

I get it, we are trying to be the best we can be, the Man City of the Championship, but maybe that isn't achievable, maybe you just need to kick your way to a win.

Today, not good enough in midfield, honestly woeful in the middle of the park. Cordoba was good, Reyes had a good debut, not much wrong. But we desperately missed something, and what has happened to Sainz?

Plodding and predictable, like too many games this season. If Sarge goes in the Summer we’re in big trouble.
On a side note, I find it concerning that most of our best players were signed before Knappers time. The recruitment doesn’t fill me with confidence, even if I appreciate they are mostly young with an eye on the future.
At the minute we look like the mid table side we are

The Duffy situation... I manage a lot of people and it's probably not how I would have handled it. I would more likely have thought "Right, let's get this game out of the way, win the game that's infront of you and then we'll see what to do about him". Because I know Oxford like to throw a ball into the box and I know SD is my best bet to head that away. And of course Oxford would have been saying "No Duffy for them lads, get that ball in there Vaulksy".

And to have Duffy on the bench, what does that say? "I'm so angry/disappointed with you, I'm not having you anywhere near this team... unless Jose goes off injured then get your shirt on lad".

Other things, how Sorensen played 90 minutes is beyond me. Wright starting to look the part, was getting into some nice areas and playing some clever passes... then he gets subbed off.

Crnac was causing them problems, he is very good at hitting the target and he does score a goal... we needed a goal... he gets subbed off.

Some of the "build up" play was so painfully slow. That and the other stuff makes me wonder what I am seeing in JHT.

Around the 80 minute point I happened to clock Sorenson, and I had genuinely forgotten he was even on the field.

I'm not losing faith in JHT, quite yet. As per usual I do feel we are unlucky with injuries. A fit Nunez would have made all the difference last night. Maybe playing Kenny from the start too.

Just so much sideways and backwards from Sorensen, all very slow too.

Which isn't even the end of the world if you have it in your locker to all of a sudden knock one in behind or zip one around the corner. Anything to ask a question of the opposition. Just that flash moment to raise the tempo and catch them off guard.

That sums him up, a safe bet. Not great at anything but will give you an average performance.

A lot of people think being able to play in a lot of positions makes you valuable. No, it just means you can do an okay job in them without excelling in any of them. Weirdly his best performances have been at left back.

Some good points Morty and GJP. The Duffy thing was pathetic, he had built up a good understanding with Cordoba the previous game. If that was a punishment, what was the point of him being on the bench. A truly shit show of man management if the facts are true and he was late
