Just talking about this in another thread and thought it might be fun to re-live it! But it was certainly the catalyst for something special!

I talked to someone, who was in the know (*taps nose) and apparently when Gunny took them away for pre season all they did was go on the piss and play golf.

Gunn tainted his legacy slightly by not walking away that summer, in my eyes.

He sullied it even further by conveniently taking a job with a sports agency and relocating to Manchester when Angus was 16, which coincidentally meant that Angus could join Man City's academy and we had to accept a tribunal's verdict as compensation.

I saw the Gunn taking Angus to Manchester as a kind of fuck you to McNally about the way he sacked him. I don't blame him for that.

He did indeed. They didn't need to just abandon him in Exeter though. That seemed a bit harsh.

Especially after the 4-0 win at Yeovil. We don't know how it would have panned out. The upside down goalkeeper was a bit of a problem though.

As I mention above, pre season wasn't particularly thorough, and I think McNally found out about it. Gunn was a terrible choice for manager, especially after getting relegated.

Pre-season games were pretty good though, 6 wins out of 7, including away at Palace who were in the division above and home to Wigan who were in the Premier League.

I thought Gunny should have stepped down after the end of the season though.

How good a judge was McNally on Head Coaches? Even given Lambert was fantastic for us was he fantastic per se? Could Neil Adams have been good? Was Alex Neil really so much better albeit his supercharged start worked well?

I think Neil Adams could have kept us up...

Alex Neil gave me the greatest day of my footballing life...

And Lambert got us back to back promotions, and kept us in the Prem, albeit briefly...

So I would say not bad :p

Was a strange old game. As shite as we were and as comical as the defending was I seem to remember Colchester literally having about 8 shots and 7 of them ending up in the back of the net

Wasn't there rumours that Gunny had had a tipple or two and there was a bit of lolling about on the dressing room benches?
Me and my mate thought the game was hilarious after having had a tipple or two ourselves.
Outstanding memory: Theoklotis flapping about catching air...
