Hi all,

Liverpool fan in peace (as the title suggests!).

I write for a Liverpool site called The Tomkins Times and as a preseason warm up, I am trying to gauge the opinions of fans of others clubs.

If you could take a few minutes to answer some questions for an article, it'd be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

1) How did you think the 14/15 season went for you compared to your expectations at the start of the campaign? Where did it go right and/or wrong?

To be honest I expected to finish top, but as it turned out the Play Off Final may have been the best day of my life so it was a happy balls up. We would have won the league if we would have employed a decent manager from the off rather than an ex player with no experience (again) but hopefully the board have learned this time.

2) What are you hopes/expectations for 15/16 and where do you think you will finish in the league?

I hope for some good games, plenty of goals and just to enjoy it. I think we'll stay up, so somewhere between 11th and 17th.

3) Do you have full trust in your manager? To play devil's advocate, what would have to go wrong for him to be sacked?

Absolutely. I think we could be relegated and he could keep his job to be honest. I guess if we finished with a record low points total he might get the boot.

4) It's been an oddly quiet transfer window this summer, but of the business you have done so far, are you happy with the ins and outs?

I'm not massively happy with the ins so far. I like all the players we've signed, but I think our defence is weak and needs strengthening. We've just signed Andre Wisdom from your lot, so we'll see how he gets on. West Brom fans didn't seem to be impressed by him last season though.

5) Obviously there is still some time to go, so which player/s would you like to sign, sell and/or which positions strengthened?

I would like to see us strengthen at CB. Our captain Russell Martin has decided to convert there from RB and he's a definite weak point. I can't actually see us replacing him, but it'd be nice. As for actual names, I don't really know. I try not to get my hopes up in transfer windows.

6) Speaking of transfers, what was your take on the Raheem Sterling transfer and the way he & his agent forced through the move?

I don't think he did anything worse than any other player that gets a move. I know you and your fans won't like to hear it, but he's just moved on to a better club with more chances to win trophies. That's what happens in football. Clubs our size have got used to it, so I guess you guys will too.

7) What do you make of Liverpool's signings? (Joe Gomez, Adam Bogdan, Danny Ings, James Milner, Nathaniel Clyne, Roberto Firmino and Christian Benteke).

I think they're poor signings bar perhaps Benteke. I think you're fools for trusting Rodgers with so much money personally. We'll see.

8) Where do you think LFC will finish in the league?

5th probably. You're miles away in terms of quality from the big four, but probably best of the rest. Depends how Spurs get on.

9) Do you want Balotelli?

I'll pass!

I'll have a crack at this....

1) How did you think the 14/15 season went for you compared to your expectations at the start of the campaign? Where did it go right and/or wrong?

Objective achieved. It went right because we brought in an excellent manager. It was going wrong before that.

2) What are you hopes/expectations for 15/16 and where do you think you will finish in the league?

I just want us to stay up, and think that we will, that will be down to having an excellent manager too. I hope that there is potential for momentum to carry us to a respectable mid-table position, if we can get off to a good start, but if you offer me 17th on the eve of the new season I'd bite your hand off.

3) Do you have full trust in your manager? To play devil's advocate, what would have to go wrong for him to be sacked?

100% trust in this management team. I honestly think that the only thing which could get him sacked this season is him headbutting a ref live on Sky or something. Even that probably wouldn't be enough.

4) It's been an oddly quiet transfer window this summer, but of the business you have done so far, are you happy with the ins and outs?

Happy enough, the squad is in fairly good shape already. I think most fans agree that we need quality over quantity this summer, a few quality additions, we've been promoted with what on paper is by far the strongest squad of the three promoted sides. Not rushing out and signing loads of players like Bournemouth is, I think, reflective of the fact that we've been promoted with a squad which has a lot more Premier League experience and quality than them.

5) Obviously there is still some time to go, so which player/s would you like to sign, sell and/or which positions strengthened?

I don't have any individuals in mind but would love for us to spend a big chunk of our budget on a quality centre back. If we signed just one more player I'd want it to be in that position. I wanted Van Djik from Celtic but the media are reporting top four interest, so that looks like a non-starter.

6) Speaking of transfers, what was your take on the Raheem Sterling transfer and the way he & his agent forced through the move?

I think what both he and your club were guilty of was airing dirty laundry in public. I'm sure battles like this go on at all clubs, at all levels, but both sides used the media as a platform for their war and it looked and smelt ugly, his agent probably takes a larger proportion of the blame but it came from both sides, should have been dealt with much more professionally, ultimately all that Sterling did was reject a contract and submit a transfer request. I also detected an over-inflated sense of entitlement from many Liverpool fans. I don't mean any disrespect, but Liverpool aren't a top top club anymore. A bigger fish poached your player. Welcome to the real world, that's what the football world is like for us supporters of teams who aren't right at the top of the hierarchy. Now that you aren't at the top of the triangle you've got bigger fish poaching your players. It really isn't any different to Liverpool raiding Southampton (further down the hierarchy) for Adam Lallana and Nathanial Clyne. The hunter became the hunted? Also, he weren't even a Liverpool youth product, you bought him from QPR in a deal worth £5m when he was 16? Its not like he was born in Toxteth, signed for you as a 7 year old and had a Liverpool badge tattooed on his chest, not really sure I understand what it is he was supposed to have owed you other than perhaps telling his agent to show more respect to the club/fans paying his wages.

7) What do you make of Liverpool's signings? (Joe Gomez, Adam Bogdan, Danny Ings, James Milner, Nathaniel Clyne, Roberto Firmino and Christian Benteke).

I'm surprised that you've given Brendan Rodgers so much more money to spend, if I'm honest, he hasn't spent too well in previous windows? I think Milner is an important signing for his leadership, what with Gerrard leaving. I'd fancy Benteke to score goals in any team if he can stay fit, because he can turn half chances into goals. Clyne is probably an upgrade on Glen Johnson, although that doesn't say much. I don't fancy Danny Ings to succeed, I think he'll flop like Lambert and Carroll, he just isn't the type of player I'd expect to succeed in a Liverpool side. The rest I don't know enough about to comment.

8) Where do you think LFC will finish in the league?

6th or 7th, fighting with Spurs and Everton for the final European spot. Possibly a little higher if you change manager.

9) Do you want Balotelli?

Yeah, swap him for Van Wolfswinkel?  Deal?

1) How did you think the 14/15 season went for you compared to your expectations at the start of the campaign? Where did it go right and/or wrong?

Our final league position was around-about where I expected we'd finish at the start of the season. However the 3rd place finish certainly wasn't as smoothly achieved as our position suggested. Appointed Neil Adams at the start of the season proved to be an incredibly bad move, hence why he was sacked half-way through the season, however we got it right in the end by appointing Alex Neil. He performed an absolute miracle to even get us into the play-off spots let alone promoted. It certainly all worked out for the best in the end, in particular as the play-off final at Wembley was easily my favourite day ever as a Norwich supporter.

2) What are you hopes/expectations for 15/16 and where do you think you will finish in the league?

I think we have the potential to finish relatively comfortably, but I imagine that we will be in and around the bottom 5 or 6 for the majority of the season. I think we'll finish somewhere between 12th and 16th.

3) Do you have full trust in your manager? To play devil's advocate, what would have to go wrong for him to be sacked?

I have never had more trust in a manager and the coaching staff than I do in Alex Neil and his team. I think the only way he could get sacked is if we were literally about 15/20 points adrift at the bottom of the table by Christmas.

4) It's been an oddly quiet transfer window this summer, but of the business you have done so far, are you happy with the ins and outs?

To be honest I don't think we needed too many new players. Bring in a couple of players to improve the first team and add a bit of strength in depth in certain positions. I've been pretty happy with what business we have done though.

5) Obviously there is still some time to go, so which player/s would you like to sign, sell and/or which positions strengthened?

Ideally we'll bring in another centre back that's an upgrade on what we currently have. We were linked with Van Dijk earlier in the window, which would be fantastic, but that one seems to have fizzled out. Another striker would also be great. Again, we were linked with Rudy Gestede a few weeks ago but nothing seems to have come of it, but he is a player I'd like us to get. Those are the main 2 area's I'd prioritise, but Alex Neil has stated that he's after a striker, left-back and back-up goalkeeper, so it looks like we won't be getting a new centre back. As for players leaving, I'm hoping that we finally get rid of Ricky Van Wolfswinkel.

6) Speaking of transfers, what was your take on the Raheem Sterling transfer and the way he & his agent forced through the move?

For a start £50m is too much for him. He's a good player with a bright future I don't doubt that, but I think Liverpool have certainly got the better end of the deal. As for the way his agent forced the deal through, I'm sure that plenty of players do the same but just don't get the same media attention.

7) What do you make of Liverpool's signings? (Joe Gomez, Adam Bogdan, Danny Ings, James Milner, Nathaniel Clyne, Roberto Firmino and Christian Benteke).

I think you've done good business so far. Firmino and Clyne are both excellent players, who will undoubtedly improve your side, and Milner on a free transfer is a fantastic piece of business. And whilst in my opinion £32m for Benteke is more than he's worth, he's proved that he can score goals at this level, which considering Sturridge's injury problems is invaluable. Ings and Bogdan are good back-up to have as well. Don't really know much about Gomez.

8) Where do you think LFC will finish in the league?

I think you'll spend most of the season challenging for the top 4, but ultimately just miss out. I think you've certainly improved last season's squad with the players you've bought in despite losing Sterling. Personally I don't think that the top 4 of Chelsea, City, United and Arsenal is going to change for a while, especially whilst you have Rodgers in charge.

9) Do you want Balotelli?

Get f*cked :)

1) How did you think the 14/15 season went for you compared to your expectations at the start of the campaign? Where did it go right and/or wrong?

Objective achieved by gaining promotion,  although we did make it hard for ourselves;  inexperienced manager appointed facing impossible expectations,  persistent changes in back room staff leading mixed performances on the field with a poor defence.  The pressure of those and an inability to address the frailties meant it was right to change the manager; It was all meant to be as it lead to the inspirational appointment of Alex Neil.   The turning point was our home defeat to Brentford when player indiscipline cost us the game and his rules, discipline and approach have been our benefit ever since.  Even so we still lost losing crucial games under AN which would have put us in the driving seat for auto promotion but that just made wembley sweeter.

2) What are you hopes/expectations for 15/16 and where do you think you will finish in the league?

It will be a tough season,  we still need to strengthen the defence and strike force;  we have a squad of good option but need a little extra quality in the starting 11.  I will be delighted with 17th,  am hoping for 15th but given how tight the bottom half is and how many clubs are in turmoil anything from 10th to 20th is possible.

3) Do you have full trust in your manager? To play devil's advocate, what would have to go wrong for him to be sacked?

Complete trust in Alex and I hope he can become a star,  rare talent on one so young, just 34 and taken two clubs to promotion in just 2 full seasons managing;   he exudes and creates confidence in his vision and the players have grown through that.    He can be sacked,   and a run of no wins (7-10),draining confidence and facing his first blip as a manger and unable to alter things can always be a death knell.   I fully expect him to see the season out though.

4) It's been an oddly quiet transfer window this summer, but of the business you have done so far, are you happy with the ins and outs?

Slow progress so far,   but we appear to have added quality first team starters so far with our permanent starters,  with Andre Wisdom the only one I remain to be convinced about.

5) Obviously there is still some time to go, so which player/s would you like to sign, sell and/or which positions strengthened?

As above we need a centre back & striker to make us competitive and expect them to be signed before the close of the transfer window.   along with a  covering no 3 keeper.  We do appear to be heavy in midfield, so maybe  but I expect van Wolfswinkel, Lafferty & Hooper to leave the club to be replaced by a better striker;   I also expect Turner to be moved on as champs now appears to be his standard.

6) Speaking of transfers, what was your take on the Raheem Sterling transfer and the way he & his agent forced through the move?

Club in an impossible position but £50m fee is well in excess of his actual worth.    Sterlings behaviour highlights the worst traits of premier football from clubs players and agents.

7) What do you make of Liverpool's signings? (Joe Gomez, Adam Bogdan, Danny Ings, James Milner, Nathaniel Clyne, Roberto Firmino and Christian Benteke).

Appear to continue a trend of over paying for average talent.  Cant see there being enough talent to make the champs league places,  and the defence remains unaddressed.

8) Where do you think LFC will finish in the league?

5th

9) Do you want Balotelli?

Yes & no.  There is a talented player in there with great attributes.   Sadly he wouldnt fit into the managers work ethic and professional ethos(we already have a striker who appears to be struggling with that so dont need another).   He seems to have some personal demons that if conquered could allow him to become the player he thinks he is.

1) How did you think the 14/15 season went for you compared to your expectations at the start of the campaign? Where did it go right and/or wrong?

I fully expected us to make a swift return based on the fact that we'd maintained the core of a squad that was good enough for the prem, but had been horribly mis-managed by Chris Hughton. Then we made Adams permanent manager, and I began to wonder if play-offs was going to be the best we could do, then when we dropped horribly on the run to Xmas I expected Adams to be sacked, and finally he did the decent thing which lead to Alex Neil coming in and making a MASSIVE impact.

Main things wrong - Loaning Bassong out to Watford and Appointing Adams as perm mananger

Main things right - The appointment of Alex Neil, the return of Bassong and the outstanding form of Bradley Johnson for most of the season.

2) What are you hopes/expectations for 15/16 and where do you think you will finish in the league?

I'm certainly hoping for a season where we don't just scrape 17th, but where we genuinely give many teams a good game and finish closer to where we did under Lambert (and Hughton in his first season here). Realistically I think we're looking at 15-17th, but if we sign a couple more first team starters and Neil continues his excellent run, then we could surprise an awful lot of teams and opposing fans.

3) Do you have full trust in your manager? To play devil's advocate, what would have to go wrong for him to be sacked?

Absolutely, easily the best manager since Paul Lambert left, and on the strength of what I've seen so far, I think he's the better manager of the two which can only bode well for the next few seasons for us.

What would have to go wrong? Some sort of major fallout with the clubs owners or a horrific run of form where we don't look like we could even beat the local blind school most weeks...

4) It's been an oddly quiet transfer window this summer, but of the business you have done so far, are you happy with the ins and outs?

Somewhat underwhelmed in a few cases but there's been some very savvy signings so far IMHO. Mulumbu on a free is great business, I think Dorrans also improves our squad technically and from a quality perspective. I remain to be convinced that Brady is worth the money we're rumoured to be paying, but that's the Premier League for you these days.

Until we sign a good, ball playing centre half and a better striker than what we currently have then I'll remain unsure overall, but generally speaking it's pretty decent so far.

5) Obviously there is still some time to go, so which player/s would you like to sign, sell and/or which positions strengthened?

Like others I'd love to see Van Dijk sign from Celtic although I think we'll be outbid by bigger sides if I'm honest, I'd also have liked Ogbonna before West Ham signed him but again I can't see how we'd have competed with them for him.

These two aside, I'd be looking at Niklas Sule, Doria or Terence Kongolo for the CB position, and I'd like to see Yedlin come in from Spurs to take over at RB.

If Brady has been signed more to compete for a left sided midfield position rather than left back, then I'd like Baba Abdul Rahman from Augsburg (although I think Toffolo and Brady will cover Olsson when needed) to challenge Olsson.

If Man Utd would loan/sell us Januzaj I'd be delighted, but chances are they won't so I'd like to see Narsingh from PSV as he will push Redmond for a starting place whilst giving cover on the other flank as well.

Centrally we're pretty packed with midfielders, but for a no 10 role to replace the ageing Wes Hoolahan (who's still quality IMHO) I'd like Adam Maher or Max Meyer (neither of which do I think are that likely),and upfront my number one choice would be Richairo Zivkovic from Ajax.

6) Speaking of transfers, what was your take on the Raheem Sterling transfer and the way he & his agent forced through the move?

With respect, I think Liverpool fans and the media have blown this all out of proportion. The guy didn't want to sign a new contract, he felt he could challenge for more trophies elsewhere (I happen to agree with him here) and it was pretty damn clear that he was looking to move. He doesn't owe the club anything (in fact, if you listen to a QPR friend of mine, he thinks this is sweet justice for Liverpool poaching him from them as a youngster) other than a bit of basic respect, and in truth you've completely mugged Man City off with that transfer fee. Very much a mountain out of a molehill situation that could have been handled so much better by the player, his agent, Liverpool FC and the media.

7) What do you make of Liverpool's signings? (Joe Gomez, Adam Bogdan, Danny Ings, James Milner, Nathaniel Clyne, Roberto Firmino and Christian Benteke).

Gomez - Good potential, not ready for regular games at this level yet

Bogdan - Decent backup keeper, but would want better for long term cover

Ings - Decent enough striker who did reasonably well in a pretty rough Burnley side, probably spend most of the season catching splinters from the bench.

Milner - Amazing value on a free and if played more centrally like he did at Villa will be a very good signing.

Clyne - One of the best young right backs in the game and signed for a respectable fee, much better than the likes of Glen Johnson

Firmino - Wanted us to sign him 2 years ago as I think he's an outstanding player with even more potential to develop, best signing for you so far.

Benteke - Strong, proven striker who can lead your strike force whilst Sturridge is inevitably injured again, expensive but clearly has all the talent needed.

8) Where do you think LFC will finish in the league?

6th

9) Do you want Balotelli?

Not in the slightest, as maligned as our signing of Ricky Van Wolfswinkel has been, he still looked better for us in the season we went down than Balotelli did for you all last season. He's clearly a very talented player when handled right, played correctly and on form, sadly this tends to be almost impossible to acheive and even harder to maintain...

Clearly I talk more sense than I realise  :D

Tbh I said practically the same as everyone else, but as you point out CB, I was probably only picked because I said some decent things about Liverpool.

£40 a year though, Jesus Christ. Who on Earth is paying that just to read a few run of the mill articles?
