After a frustrating day yesterday with downtime for many users I thought I'd get today off to a better start by finishing off three new site features, I've not previously mentioned this first one to anybody - so a nice surprise.
1. Social Page
The 'social page', which desktop users can access via the navigation menu (no idea about mobiles, haven't checked and need sleep),aggregates and displays a selection of recent popular tweets (but not retweets) from up to 25 twitter accounts. Currently the twitter accounts feeding into the system are:
Players
@hoop588
@LeroyFer10
@RvWolfswinkel9
@Pilkington_11
@NathanRedmond22
@Johnruddy86
@Ebenno88
@Martinolsson3
@becchioluciano
@javiergerr
@ryanbennett_22
@joshmurphy65
@jacobmurphy95
@CarltonJM
@AlexanderTettey
@gazoneil
@grabbs22
Sites/Club
@norwichtalkcom
@norwichcityfc
@NorwichCityMFW
Legends
@hucks6dh6
@grantholt31
@iwanroberts
@eadie11
The one account which does have retweets and favourites included is @norwichtalkcom, so I can also favourite or retweet something awesome from say..... @biggrantholt, or @robinncst, and it will show on the feed. I'd initially configured this feed to include tweets from @pinkun, but after discovering that one of their journalists had blocked the NorwichTalk.com twitter account from following them - for no apparent reason other than that this forum dares to exist - I have added Rick Waghorn's MyFootballWriter instead. The software's algorithm decides which tweets to display, I could micro-manage it and self-select but that would take far too much time and effort.
2. Twitter Connect
You can now create an account on NorwichTalk.com using your twitter account, or hook your existing account up to twitter connect, for quick and easy log in (you can already do the same with facebook). Please note that when a user first links the account twitter says something a little scary about permission to 'post tweets', please be assured that I am 99.999% certain nothing will actually get auto-tweeted and this line is irrelevant. If anybody experiences anything which suggests otherwise please let me know!
3. Embed Tweets
Support has been added for the super easy embedding of tweets. To embed a tweet simply open the tweet up so that you get the URL of the tweet, copy the URL, then in the post editor here on NorwichTalk.com simply press the green 'Special BB code' button top left hand side of editor window, select media, paste tweet URL into the URL field. This will insert the URL between media tags into the text box like this:
[media] https://twitter.com/Pilkington_11/status/498554077840932865 [/media]
When your post is published your tweet will look like this (although annoyingly sometimes takes a good few seconds to show).....
https://twitter.com/Pilkington_11/status/498554077840932865
You could of course also just manually type the media tags either side of the tweet URL, which is even quicker...
