I was randomly looking through my pictures folder and found these. I only moved here in the early 90's so a bit before my time, but I do struggle to remember what Riverside looked like before they redeveloped it!

The top photo looks like 1970/80s because the River End stand is built. In the 50's when I first went the only covered stands were the Barclay and main stand. In those days much of the terracing was still railway sleepers. Much has changed.

Yeah, funded from the sale of Kevin Reeves. A friend of mine was working for Carters at the time, I think it's early 80's
I think photo two is a few years later. The car park is still behind the river end but work hasn't started on what is now Morrisons, early 90's ?

All I remember when I started going in the early 90's was that area all boarded off. So you are probably accurate there!

The large industrial complex in the centre is the old Boulton & Paul site, which still partly operated as B&P Joinery, when we moved to Norfolk in 1985. When it closed in the late 80s, it became a park-and-ride site for a while.
That helps to place the date in the time frame Ricardo has guessed.

Incidentally, I found an early photo of the area, dated 1928, which is almost identical to the top photo, but only has a large expansion of grass where the stadium is now.

Being rather non-techy, I couldn't get it to copy to this forum. If anybody is better than me, could you Google it and paste below? Just look up Boulton and Paul, Norwich and the old image comes up.

Serves me right.

Wife keeps telling me to get of the phone.
Better go onto the laptop in future. That'll confuse her.

Nice photos
I left Norfolk in 1988, returning only for a few months in 1994.
I still find it odd when I go to Thorpe station and look across at Riverside...

A group of us used to meet in The Rosary for a pre match pint. We used to walk past the railway and along the river to the ground and I can remember how it looked in the top photo. As an aside I can also remember the hoardings advertising the new Riverside development, the artists impression had the houses/area looking like those three storey house you see next to the canals in Amsterdam, didn't turn out like that did it :)..................
