College football gets going in earnest tonight, while the NFL starts next Thursday.

Despite living in Texas, I went to the University of Oklahoma, which has a bit of a storied history (seven national titles, five Heisman Trophies).  Last season was a downer, and I didn't see them do much to improve the defense (hmmm, seems to be a theme).  But we do have a hell of a running back in Samaje Perine, who as a freshman last year set the single game rushing record with 427 yards on 34 carries (scoring six TDs in the process).  The kid is a tank, coming in at 5-11/240 pounds.  He benches 275 pounds 20 times like he's picking daises, and squats 440 pounds only because the strength coach doesn't want him doing any more.

He needs to be a little more careful though... here's what happened the last time he went on a jog...

Anyway, I probably won't say much else about things until we play Texas next month.

I've given most of the popular Yank sports leagues a go over the last year or so [Just the NHL to go] and will certainly be sticking with handegg.

I just bandwagon Green Bay and the Oakland A's. One worked out slightly better than the other. Do enjoy baseball most though.

I actually have some background in ice hockey, having been a broadcaster/writer covering juniors over here.  I've also done some consulting for some teams and leagues.  Nothing high-level, mind you, but the game has a small circle, so I do have some decent connections.

As has been seen in the baseball thread, I grew up in Kansas City so I've followed the Royals my whole life.  Really looking forward to the postseason. The Chiefs I follow as well, which is nice because I can't stand the Dallas Cowboys.  I'd love to catch the Chiefs-Lions game in London November 1, but that's not going to happen. :(
