City v Derby report for those who can't get on Pinkun site

Apologies in advance for the brevity as I cannot get the site to work on my computer with either Firefox or Chrome so have had to resort to Android phone.

Thankfully the wind and rain of yesterday had cleared away although it was still a bit chilly on the ride down to the ground. I think most of us had every right to be in confident mode but as we all know to our cost, things have a way of coming back to bite you.

With Nunez restored to the side it looked a fairly strong lineup and the bench was not so scruffy either. With Derby on such a poor run and with the dismissal of Paul Warne, it didn't surprise me that they suddenly looked up for the fight and to be honest much of the early hurly burly lacked any real flow and was more of a physical contest than anything we have seen at Carrow Road this season.

The highlight of the first half was a double offside in the space of sixty seconds around the ten minute mark. First the visitors swept away down their left and the ball was fired into the net as the cross came in, only for the flag to be raised which brought cries of derision from the home faithful. Immediately it was City down their left and again a flag as Dobbin's shot hit the net. Cue a counter burst of derision from the away faithful.

Apart from lots of huff and puff and a few pointless corners I can't remember a goal bound shot at either end. Nunez had a chance from a free kick but made a right old hash of it which was totally in keeping with the quality of the game.

HT CITY 0 DERBY 0

At halftime it had goalless draw written all over it or perhaps a scruffy goal either way. At least the home side tried to get on with it a bit as the second half began and a free kick into the box was headed back across goal without anyone getting a telling touch. City bossed possession but moves often broke down thirty yards from goal and the Derby keeper was rarely called into any serious action. When it did get through to him he hung onto it for ages which at least gave the crowd something to get riled up about.

Slimane and Stacey came on for Fisher and Nunez on the hour and it did look a bit better with Stacey getting some crosses in from the right but a lot of the time City attacks just ran into a brick wall.

The City goal finally came from a nice bit of quality play between Marcondes and Sargent. Again it was Sargent who found space to the right of centre and he powered on to Marcondes quick past before blasting the ball into the net with twenty minutes left. That should really have been that as City continued to shuffle the pack with Schwartau, Wright and Chrisene all getting minutes.

Unfortunately the game had a sting in the tail as we moved into time added. Ref Ricardo ( no, not me) deemed Stacey's foot high in a challenge that to me didn’t appear much at all but in the context of the game I was not shocked to see him point to the spot. Yates then did the honours for Derby and I was probably the least surprised person in the ground. Let's be honest about this, as a spectacle, this game ran a poor second to watching paint dry.

FT CITY 1 DERBY 1

Lots of alright performances but nobody really lit my touch paper today.

A game with very little goalmouth action and very few highpoints to describe. Some games I have a problem with missing something out. With this one it was a job to find anything worth commenting on.
